I’ve noticed something about myself over the years.

It’s rare that I leave something exactly as I bought it.

I’m not talking about major modifications or complete rebuilds. More often than not, it’s something small - a detail that most people would never notice.

A different handle.

A custom label.

A small engraving.

A carefully chosen accessory.

Something that quietly says, “this one is mine.”

Recently, it was a simple change to the band on one of my Casio watches. The watch itself is mass-produced, identical to thousands of others. But with one small modification, it became uniquely mine.

It was about creating a connection.

I think that’s why I enjoy making things so much. Personalizing an object transforms it from something I own into something I’ve participated in. It becomes part of my story instead of just another product on a shelf.

I don’t believe every object needs to remain exactly as it left the factory.

Sometimes the most meaningful design work happens after the purchase.

A tiny modification can change the way you feel about an object every time you pick it up.

It’s no longer just another watch.

It’s my watch.
